The Deputy Principal, Kenya Science Campus, Prof. Horace Ochanda giving his remarks during the orientation.
In his speech, The Deputy Principal welcomed the Freshers. He said that their admission was unique since the university normally admits in September. He stated that it was necessitated by the admission of the accelerated group that broke the traditional university cycle. He also reminded them that they are embarking on an academic journey that may appear long now but soon they will be looking back and wondering how the time flew by so fast. He also said that the University of Nairobi prides itself in being the best. It is the best university in kenya and in the region. Currently it is at position 6 in Africa and one of the topmost universities in the world. As captured in the vision, it is a world class university committed to scholarly excellence. The currently student population is over 80,000 and over 5,000 members of staff.

The Deputy Principal insisted that they have no reason whatsoever not to excel since the University of Nairobi admits quality students, have quality academic and support staff and quality learning and teaching resources.
