The Kenya Science Performance Contract Committee held its 8th Monthly and Quarterly Meeting on Wednesday, April 12 2017 at the KSC Boardroom. The meeting was chaired by the Deputy Principal, Prof. Horace Ochanda who enumerated the Vice-Chancellor’s clarion call to all staff members to be sensitized on the University Management Board’s decision to halt renewal of post retirement contracts for all staff hence the need for a proper succession plan for the campus. The University was facing a cash flow problem and would only renew contracts of academic staff whose services are essential.

The Deputy Principal further emphasized that students population data should be presented separately as a standing item in UMB meetings. Prof. Ochanda reiterated that admission of students will be on a continuous basis and all applicants should be promptly informed whether their application are successful with the shortest time possible to impact on them that their applications are being considered.

The campus participated in the mid-Term Performance Contract Review which was conducted on Thursday, April 6 2017 at the Central Catering Unit. The campus performed well for the three (3) quarters and was especially commended for having surpassed the target set for allocation of 40% of all procurement tenders to the purchase of locally produced goods and services and was on course on the allocation 30% of all procurement tenders to youth, women and persons with disabilities as well as the mandate under the National Cohesion and Principals of Governance.

However, the campus was encouraged to come up with a viable succession plan for all section/units irrespective of the unique nature of the campus. The campus had already initiated three (3) projects and was on course on a fourth one. As a result of the same, Certificates of Practical Completion for all maintenance and repair works should be produced as evidence of successful completion of said works.

The committee members were encouraged to adhere to the strict timelines as stipulated in the Performance Contract – 2016/2017 and ensure all monthly and quarterly reports are submitted without fail.

The Chair was pleased to introduce the newly deployed accountant, Mr. Nixon Otiende, to the committee members as he had previously been based at Kikuyu Campus before bring the meeting to an end at 1.13 p.m. with a word of prayer from Dr. Pamela Lunjalu, the student counselor.
